Week-long events to highlight children’s welfare

When it comes to improving children’s lives, China has taken several steps, and the national welfare network for children is on track to be completed and regulated, according to China Philanthropy Research Institute of Beijing Norm University.

In the past five years, China has not only established a system to provide allowance to orphans, but is also extending the system to other children who need help, such as those having severe physical problems, said Wang Zhenyao, the president of the institute.

With the Children’s Day falling on June 1, the institute has launched a series of week-long events on May 29 to promote the importance of establishing a welfare system for children.

The events, in coordination with UNICEF, are aimed at raising people’s awareness on the importance of investing in children’s welfare. They will also highlight those places that are doing well in helping children, especially those who are in bad need of social assistance. Officials from UNICEF, TV celebrity Ju Ping and actress Chen Hao also attended the launch of the week-long program.
