What's on in Beijing (Dec 16-22)

Artist Huang Rui's studio opens to the public
Huang Rui is a pioneer in Chinese contemporary art and also a founder of Beijing's art hub 798 Art Zone.
His private art studio, Hang Rui White Cloud House, opened for free visits on weekends last Saturday. It offers a glimpse of the versatile artist's early paintings, sculptures and art installations, as well as his art and antique collections.
The studio is also hosting a documentary photo exhibit about the avant-garde Stars Exhibition in 1979 - an enlightening period in Chinese contemporary art after the country's reform and opening-up. Photographers Li Xiaobin and Chi Xiaoning captured the gaze in people's eyes and excitement on their faces when they were offered a rare chance to look at pioneering paintings and sculptures on the streets.
